A physician noticed a murmur that was "not quite physiological" in a 10-month-old symptomless child. A systolic-diastolic murmur ("sound of machine"), where the systolic component is stronger and higher in pitch than the diastolic component. Electrocardiography (ECG) and radiographs showed a slight strain on the left side. Echocardiography showed considerable flow in the ductus. The child was referred for closure of the ductus with a coil at the age of 1.5 years.
