Keratoacanthoma on the scalp more than 1 cm in size with typical epithelial rim and central heavy hyperkeratotic plug. This basically benign tumour grows very rapidly. Histopathological differentiation from squamous cell carcinoma is difficult. Both excision and cryosurgery, preferably combined with curettage before freezing, will result in complete healing, but follow-up is necessary to exclude recurrence - and incorrect diagnosis.
